Right to Work Legislation prevents prospective employees from being forced to join a union as a condition for employment with a private company. Some Right to Work laws also dictate that non-members of unions must not be forced to pay union dues under specific circumstances. The Supreme Court held in 2018 in the Janus v AFSCME case that public unions may not extract union dues from non members under the thesis that this constitutes compelled speech.\n\nNew Hampshire has had several attempts in recent years to pass a Right to Work bill, although none of them have succeeded.
